How Glen Hansard Sings Gospel

There is a lot of heart ache in our world. Kingdom realities say that this darkness is momentary and while we suffer through it, we have hope that we’re not alone – Jesus is with us. He is literally here with us – Emmanuel. Good news.

I hear this good news when Glen Hansard sings, “I’m not leaving you.” It’s just after he’s described a broken heart who is “slowly giving up on everything // kneeling in the dark // giving over to self-deceiving // prostrate bowed, but not believing // squandered more than you could borrow.” He is tethered to this soul – this bird of sorrow. And he literally screams, “I’M NOT LEAVING YOU. I’M NOT LEAVING.”

Such. Good. News.
